Goals & Steps
Organize, track, and evolve your goals. Break high-level outcomes into manageable steps and action items you can complete day-to-day.
Key Actions
- View timelines, daily commitments, and completion %.
- Mark steps complete; add or reorder steps anytime.
- Reopen completed tasks from the task menu if you need to redo them.
- Removing a step from Today's Actions pauses its countdown; re-adding resumes the remaining days.
- Create step-level action plans and push to Today's Actions.
- Delete tasks in a confirmation modal to avoid accidental removals.
- Use the Completed tab to review recently finished tasks.
- Use Next step and the Upcoming steps pager to focus on what's next; open View all steps for review.
- Edit step names and durations. Changing a duration clears its sub-steps and todos so you can regenerate them.
- Use the work log to capture sessions, edit past entries, and save repeatable plans for reuse. Add optional ratings to track how each session or plan run felt.
Focus Limits
For best focus, aim for one primary goal and one to two secondary goals. Goaliath highlights your primary vs secondary goals and prompts you to confirm the order as you engage new goals.
Execution Loop
- Pick a step - create/refresh its action plan.
- Send the next 1-3 actions to Today's Actions.
- Do the work, mark done, capture what went well and what could be improved, and reflect weekly.
Evidence of Progress (Cornerstone)
Goaliath treats visible proof of work as the fastest way to sustain momentum. Capture a quick trace after each session so progress stays real and reviewable.
- Log a short note or link that shows what you did.
- Use the work log to keep an accumulating trail of effort.
- Marking a task complete prompts for evidence (note or upload/link for a document, PDF, image, or video).
- Evidence prompts also ask for time spent (hours/minutes) to improve coaching data.
- If you already logged time on a step today, the full completion modal shows the total logged so far and asks for any additional time today.
- Evidence can also link a recent work log entry.
- Evidence trails show the full contents of the selected work log entry (single session or repeatable plan run).
- Goal steps and action steps track daily evidence separately from full step completion. Use the task row to log today's work, and use the step menu to mark the entire step complete.
- When logging daily work, you can also mark the entire step complete in the same evidence modal if the step is fully done.
- If you logged work today, Goaliath can suggest that entry in the completion modal before you browse the full list. This only appears for logs saved with an explicit entry date.
- Done buttons on goal steps, action steps, and to-dos also open the evidence modal so completions stay consistent across the app.
- You can disable evidence requirements in Profile > Preferences.
- Use View evidence on a task to review the latest proof.
- Review the trail weekly to adjust the next steps.
Scientific Rationale
- Chunking & Progress Feedback: Smaller steps improve perceived competence and momentum (SDT).
- Implementation Intentions: Moving items to the daily script bridges intention - action.
- Goal-Setting Theory: Frequent feedback (completion, streaks) sustains motivation.
